Sales Proposals - Writing Sales Proposals Training

A sales proposal document should work as an extra sales person, informing stakeholders how you have dealt with their needs, decision factors and buying motives to create a sales proposition that delivers real value.

When you create a sales proposal, many people in the 'sales team' may contribute to the content, merging sales and technical information. But remember that every sales proposal must be a persuasive business document, not a technical dissertation!

The final document must be professionally presented and structured - and should not only summarise the issues raised in your customer meetings, but should also outline your company's individual solution to those issues.

Your objective is to produce a professional document which demonstrates you have:

  • Understood the customer’s needs and objectives
  • Identified the decision factors, needs and buying motives of each individual stakeholder
  • Created a solution that features a value proposition to meet the customer’s needs and objectives
  • The skills, knowledge and resources to deliver the proposal in a timescale that meets the customer’s needs

Content varies for each customer, but a programme on Proposal Writing will cover:

  • The difference between a proposal and a quotation
  • The purpose of the business proposal
  • Structure – seven key areas every business proposal must address
  • Key content and messages
  • Timing delivery of the proposal
  • The ‘do’s’ and ‘don’ts’ of proposal writing

Proposal writing can be delivered as a stand alone programme or integrated into a Professional Selling: Winning New Accounts: Key Account Sales or Major Account Sales programme.

Delegates completing a Sales Proposal Writing programme will:

  • Understand the importance of the ‘proposal’ in the business-to-business sales cycle
  • Develop the skills and knowledge needed to write persuasive and winning proposals
  • Know when to use the proposal in the sales cycle
  • Close more sales
