Harnessing New Technologies to Better Support Experiential Learning
Our unrivalled training expertise in leadership, sales management and sales is founded on many years' commercial experience and is used to create an innovative, powerful and engaging, tailored pc-based business simulation to support a complete learning intervention.
So what are 'business simulations'? Unlike many 'e-learning' solutions, our simulations are facilitator-led and provide that essential element of human interaction. The simulations and material reflect your key strategic objectives. New skills and behaviours are taught through traditional, interactive clsssroom sessions, which are then cemented through practice during fictitional, but realistic scenarios in the computer simulation.
- Combining a sense of fun and an element of competition, critical thinking and problem-solving skills are employed to instil new learning from the experience.
- Participants are actively involved in hands-on, practical, experiential learning, in which they reflect on their decisions, immediately apply techniques, absorb learning and have the new skills tested in a safe environment.
- Your people are assessed on new skills and competencies with your own unique key performance measures and language.
- People have a 'risk-free' opportunity to test out their new skills and behaviours.
- Knowledge and experience is captured - it doesn't leave when people do.
- Due to their flexible nature, our simulations can be written in any language and updated to reflect changing times and challenges - available to you under a simple licensing arrangement.
- Available on disc, electronically or uploaded to your intranet system to train those who may have missed vital training programmes, or for refresher training, or one-on-one coaching.
- Flexibility - we can facilitate the programmes, or train your trainers to deliver the programmes internally.
- A simulation can be built to complement an established, proven programme of yours.
- New thinking, attitudes and behaviours result from peer discussion, debate and consensus - a powerful learning experience.
- The real key is how the learning is cemented through the facilitator debrief so participants gain a clear understanding of the impact their decisions have had - a learning process which is, again, highly effective.
- We work very hard to build simulations that are enjoyable, punchy and completely relevant to your organisation.
- You can train twice as many people as for traditional development programmes.
- You will have a high level of consistency across an organisation, reducing training costs.

This up-to-the-minute technology has already been used by organisations such as RBS, Xerox, Roche, Starwood and Lombard to enhance learning through fast-moving scenarios. To date, we have designed customised business simulations to help clients with:
- Training Programmes – to support traditional learning techniques
- Sales Conferences – to support the theme of a conference, challenging participants to think about how they will apply the learning in day-to-day business issues
- Self Development – to be used by individuals (either as an off-line or online tool) to develop skills and knowledge relevant to their roles, often accessed via their company’s intranet
- In Role Training and Coaching – used by team managers to train and then coach specific skill sets.
- Recruitment - as part of the selection process.
How it Works
Our platforms incorporate innovative learning content, built around a story line, and state of the art technology. The simulation is divided into manageable ‘rounds’ – usually lasting between 45 and 60 minutes. In each round the users are given 12-15 options and challenged to make decisions based on those options.
Content is supported by a scorecard, which measures the skills and behaviours you want to develop in your people. To add to the realism for participants, these measures are built to replicate your own internal processes and measures, using your language.
Throughout the simulation, delegates receive feedback through the story line and then, as they complete each stage of the simulation, they receive:
- First - Decision Feedback - for each decision the users make, they view:
- The decision options
- The option they selected
- Business scenario – an explanation of the skills and behaviours that the decision required the users to employ
- Feedback – objective feedback on the choice of decision, the wider business implications of the decision and potential alternatives
- Second – A Scorecard – illustrating total scores under each of the client’s development criteria. This creates the competitive aspect of the simulations which users find compelling.
